Those were different times! '97 was first of two years I went...when generators were more scarce and glow sticks were coin of the realm. While I only went two years, they were glorious and life-changing. And since 2005 I've been back to the Black Rock playa almost every single year and think it is magical.

While standing on top of our art car, it is mind boggling to look out over the playa on Man Burn night. Every time I ask those standing around me, “How do you describe this to people, when they ask what it’s like at Burning Man”, I always get the same response. Upon asking, just about everyone looks out upon the festive crowd, slowly shake their head a few times while trying to come up with an answer, then say, “This can’t be described. I can’t put this into words powerful enough to accurately portray the human emotions presented and the feeling of being “one” with your fellow man/woman. You just have to see it and experience it for yourself.” Burning Man has given me a renewed faith in my fellow man. After 11-1/2 months of living in our default world of competition and dog-eat-dog society, I rely on Burning Man to bring me back from my acquired cynicism and enjoy being part of my world again. At least for a few months anyway.

The "Clean-up" is so important to perform effectively if this type of "Gathering" or otherwise, is to continue; otherwise the ecological Cost will be prohibitive. The "Leave only your footprints" concept in everyday Life.

These Hypocrites that claim to leave no Trace do anything but. Besides leaving tracks that will exist for years they leave mountains of garbage for locals to clean up. They don't bring money into the community. They cost the community. It seems their supporters share the same demented fetishes also. Hypocrisy today is astounding. Go to the mirror boy!
